I finally made Halo Halo, which is a dessert I enjoyed growing up. My favorite part is the mung beans! I was surprised to learn that my love for mung beans hasn’t changed since I was a child. You know what else hasn’t changed? My dislike for ube. Yeah, we don’t get along.
I know that the ingredients for Halo-halo can be purchased layered in one jar, but I wanted to make the dessert from start to finish, which isn’t expensive, by the way. My recipe called for vanilla ice cream on top, but don’t worry, there’s ube in there.
The palm nuts were a nice surprise. I really enjoyed them! You can get them in quite a few colors, to jazz up the look of your dessert, and I chose green, though I would go with red in the future. Can you tell I made this dish around Christmas? I wonder what other colors palm nuts come in.
