Confession! I’ve never had Suman before! I judged the book by its cover; Suman always looked like it had a weird texture, so I stayed away from it. But part of getting in touch with my culture is eating the food, so I decided to not only eat it, but make it first!
Suman is very easy to make! If you like sweet rice (malagkit,) coconut milk and sugar, then you will enjoy this dish! You will need banana leaves to tie up the Suman for the steamed portion of the recipe, though I’m not convinced that this step adds any flavor. The banana leaf keeps the rice mixture together. But it’s pretty! And it makes a great place mat!
